    How the President is elected

I watch all of the political drama with great amusement.  The national media portrays every primary with great importance.  This past week, the South Carolina primary results were supposed to have some meaning in the big picture.    At stake were 25 delegates!  That’s 25 out of 2,286 total delegates, or about 1% of the total delegates.  All of the talk of “the winner of the South Carolina primary has gone no to win the nomination…blah..blah…blah…blah” is pointless.  It’s one primary in the long line of primaries.  So, all of the press is just hype.

The next primary will be in Florida, so I’m sure the press will give us how “this primary will gauge the pulse of the voting public”.  Of course, that will get political junkies glued to the TV for the next week gobbling up every story about every candidate and all the drama surrounding them.  The truth is this primary will gauge the pulse of the Republicans who care enough to go vote in the primary.

The funny thing about the campaign for the GOP nomination right now is all players are giving ammunition to the Democrats.  Every swipe that Romney takes at Gingrich and vice versa will come back up in the national election.  This is the same for every challenging party in an election, the incumbent sits back and takes notes while the opposition candidates are cutting each other to ribbons.  That’s why it’s rare for incumbents to get defeated.

What’s interesting this time around is the poll numbers for Obama.  With an economy like we have, an incumbent should be running well behind any candidate in the opposition party.  Yet, Obama is slightly behind in some polls and ahead in other polls.  What does this say about the election in fall?  That the Republicans aren’t putting any candidate out there that will excite the Independents and disgruntled Democrats.  That’s really significant.

In all actuality, the fall election will come down to states like Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Indiana, Virginia, and North Carolina.  The other states are strong red or blue.  So, the polling numbers to pay attention to are in those states.  If Obama carries all the states that are strong Democratic and 2-3 of the weak Democratic states, he gets re-elected.  The Electoral College guarantees this.  I’m not saying the battle is over, but the Republicans  had better think of the candidate that will stand a good chance in the battleground states.

My vote for President doesn’t matter as I live in a bluer than blue state, Maryland.  Jerry Jones will be a humble man before Maryland goes for a Republican Presidential candidate.  My votes are going to anyone but the incumbents this year because we need to send a message to our elected officials that they’d better start listening to us.  I hope more people feel this way and follow my strategy.  Otherwise, it’s business as usual in DC.

    My 2 cents.

Long awaited! My AFC and NFC Championship predictions!

I know everyone has been waiting with great anticipation for my AFC and NFC Championship picks!

AFC Championship – Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 3 pm EST

New England Patriots- 28, Baltimore Ravens- 17

I want to pick Baltimore, but I just think the Patriots are too strong right now.  If the cold weather can slow Tom Brady down, it could be another story, but I expect the Pats to go to their 7th Super Bowl.  I’ll pull for the winner of this game to win the Super Bowl

NFC Championship – Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 6:30 pm EST

New Jersey Giants- 24, San Francisco 49ers- 20

This is really a toss-up, but the Giants have the hot hand right now.  I expect a Super Bowl rematch with New England, hopefully with different results!

    Last week: 3-1 (.750)   Playoffs 5-3 (.625)

Here they are, my NFL Divisional Playoff Picks

Well, I was 2-2 from last week.  Made me sick to see the Giants win, but watching the Broncos beat the Stealers was worth it!  I believe I heard Bill Maher throw up at the end of that game!

    Here goes this weeks picks:

    New Orleans Saints-31, San Franscisco 49ers-19 (Saturday 1/14 @ 4:30 pm EST)

The Niners will hold the Saints to 31 points, but Drew Brees is a monster right now and the Niners are in their first playoff in a while.  The Niners offense is too weak to take advantage of the Saints defensive weaknesses.

    New England Patriots-24, Denver-20 (Saturday 1/14 @ 8 pm EST)

I picked against the Broncos last week and they responded with the upset.  It’ll be a tall order in New England on Saturday night, but the weather is supposed to be cold this weekend, maybe we can get some snow and even things out.

    Baltimore Ravens-22, Houston Texans-17 (Sunday 1/15 @ 1pm EST)

This will be a defensive battle, but I think Flacco’s experience helps their offense be just a bit more

New Jersey Giants-23, Green Bay Packers-21

Just a gut feeling that the Packers will fall.  Also, I picked against the Giants last week and they won, so I’m trying to do my part!  I still don’t buy that Eli Manning is a better QB than Aaron Rodgers, but they have momentum.

    Last week: 2-2  .500

My NFL Wild Card predictions – long-awaited by the World!

Here are my picks for the NFL Wild Card playoffs.  Starting with the Saturday games:

    Houston-23, Cincinnati-19 (Sat 1/7 @ 4:30 PM EST in Houston)

I know the Texans are slumping coming into the game and their QB Yates has an injury, but I think their defense will hold back the Bengals and Andy Dalton.  Houston still has Foster and Tate in the backfield and that will help them control the clock.

    New Orleans-49, Detroit-41 (Sat 1/7 @ 8 PM EST in New Orleans)

This one will be a shootout, maybe even break all kinds of playoff records.  Drew Brees can carve up any defense in the NFL and he’s on a roll.  Unfortunately for the Saints, the defense will have to stop Calvin Johnson and he’s on fire.  Hometown crowd and the likelihood of meltdowns by some of the undisciplined Lions give the edge to the Saints.  I really feel for any team that has to play the Saints this playoff season.  I may despise Sean Payton, but his team is hitting its stride now.

Atlanta-28, New Jersey Giants-10 (Sun 1/8 @ 1 PM EST in New Jersey)

The Giants are in the playoffs by the benefit of outlasting the other mediocre teams in the NFC East.  I’m not impressed by victories over the Jets and Cowboys.  That’s like winning a game of chess against Rick Perry and George W. Bush, not impressive.  Falcons are starting to hit their stride and I think Matt Ryan carves up the Giants defensive secondary.

    Pittsburgh-17, Denver-11 (Sun 1/8 @ 4:30 PM EST in Denver)

I want Denver and Tim Tebow to beat the rapist-led Steelers, but I cannot see it happening.  I’m giving the Denver defense a lot of credit in my prediction and the altitude seems to bother the rapist Rothlesberger and his team.  But, I think the Steelers defense will induce turnovers and win the game.  I think Tebow will get a chance to bring them back, but will fall short in the end.  I would love to see the atheists hurl their guts out if Tebow brings the Broncos back for a win in this game!

    Theme for 2012

I’ve decided my theme for 2012 is “Make it Happen!”  Since it’s an election year, we’re going to be hit with a ton of negativity about how bad things are.  Well, I tell you what, I woke up this morning, so my first goal has been achieved!  God gave me the gift of another day to fulfill the purpose He’s given me!  I can whine it away by looking at all the bad things in life, or I can enjoy life by looking at all that I’ve got going for me (despite the Cowboys, I’m not negative there, I’m realistic!).

We are empowered by our Creator to do great things in the world, but He never promised it would be easy.  So, every day will be a new chapter.  Sammy Hagar once said in concert, “Yesterday is done and gone, forget about yesterday!  And tomorrow might never come, quit worrying about tomorrow!  All you got is Right Here, Right Now!”

So, today, I’m going to take on all the tasks head-on!  God’s given me the ability to handle anything that comes my way!  So, bring it on!

Cowboys did exactly what I expected

Well, the Cowboys blew the last game, even though there was a quarter and a half where they actually looked like they might pull it out.  But, the season ends with a loss and early tee times for the players.

There is one good thing about the loss, the Cowboys get a third place schedule next year instead of a first place schedule. I’m pretty sure they play the NFC South and AFC North next year, so no breaks there. But, they play Chicago instead of Green Bay and Seattle instead of San Francisco (the teams they would have played if they had won). The bad news is they have to play New Orleans, Atlanta, Pittsburgh (home), and Baltimore (road).

The real bad news is there are some big holes to fill on this team and not enough resources to fill them all. Jerry will pick his usual “great athletes” in the draft and ignore true talent. We’ll get hype from the Jones machine and the kool-aid drinkers will drink it all up. We’ll get all the grand expectations from playoffs to Super Bowl. This is a mediocre team right now and we cannot expect the draft and free agency to kick it up to a great team in one off-season.

This pains me greatly since I’ve been a Cowboys fan since 1975. And for all the kool-aid drinkers who will start on this “you’re not a real fan if you’re criticizing them”, you’re wrong. A true fan wants the team to actually win, not just be hyped. When you drink Jerry’s kool-aid, you are just enabling the dollar-grabbing, self-proclaimed football guru. Jerry is about making money, not winning. If he were about winning, he’d see what is going wrong (having non-football minds make football decisions) and be willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to fix it! Even if that means stepping back and taking a back seat to a football mind!

    My 2 cents.

    Cowboys final 2011-12 game

The Cowboys are playing the last regular season game this week at the New York Giants.  Frankly, I expect this to be the last game of the season for the Cowboys.  The Cowboys are horribly inconsistent, and that usually spells defeat against good teams.

The kool-aid drinkers keep bringing up that the Cowboys lost games they should have won, but that’s just enabling the mediocrity of the Cowboys.  They should not have won those games because they let them get away.  Shoulda-woulda-coulda was a phrase my father used to use.  It means absolutely nothing to ponder these situations, what matters is what happened.  I could spend my life thinking “if I had defied my parents and signed up for football in junior high, I could have had a Hall Of Fame career in the NFL”.  The reality is I didn’t have a HOF career, that’s all that counts.

The Giants win this game 38-14.  It stays close up until halftime when Dallas makes a mistake and the Giants grab the lead going into halftime.  They come out in the second half and steamroll the Cowboys.  I hate having to make this prediction, but I’m going on what I’ve seen.  The Cowboys haven’t been unlucky, they’ve failed to execute, and that is why I am picking against them.

I’m hoping that they prove me wrong and extend the season at least one more week, but I’m getting my mind ready for the Rangers spring training.

    My 2 cents.

    Tragedy caused by speed

As the father of a 5-year-old boy, this story breaks my heart. After looking at the photos, that SUV had to be going extremely fast! I keep telling my wife that when you drive, your actions behind the wheel affect EVERYONE on the road, so people need to think of that when they pull the stunts they do!

I’ve driven this particular road HUNDREDS of times with my son in the back in his car seat. Looking at that photo, I don’t think the car seat would even have saved him.

I’m furious that people continue to think they have the right to drive like a demon and now a family will start 2012 by burying their 5-year-old boy. I know people die every day in car accidents, but I think I’ve just been pushed to my limits. I wish the SUV driver would spend the rest of their life in prison, but that’s doubtful. Hopefully, they’ll be haunted from now on by the vision of this child dying.

Thank you for letting me vent and please put this family in your prayers.

    Bill Maher’s anti-Tebow tweet

Evidently, Bill Maher (militant atheist) took great joy in Tim Tebow’s bad game in Buffalo with a tweet rife with vulgarities and offensive language.  He’s just showing his hatred of Christians with the tweet.  We Christians get criticism for our lack of tolerance, but when one of the champions of the atheist cause show the same lack of tolerance, I don’t hear atheists coming out and condemning Maher.

I love Tim Tebow, he’s driving the atheists crazy!  He’s not afraid to show that he’s a Christian.  His kneeling (or Tebowing as it’s being called) is not new, many players have been doing this for years.  What drives anti-Tebow fanatics is that, while Tebow isn’t the greatest QB in the world, he works hard and keeps trying.  He inspires his teammates with his determination.  Also, what drives the anti-Tebow nuts, is that he practices what he preaches.  They hate that, they want to point to any Christian who falls to their weakness and then generalize how all Christians are hypocrites.

I used to think Bill Maher was funny, but when he joined the militant atheist crowd, I lost interest in him.  I do my part by not watching anything with him in it, it helps me keep my peace and doesn’t contribute to his bank account.

    Just my 2 cents.
